How can cities and towns use data to foster innovative, cross-sector collaborations? What kind of effect can these collaborations have on the development of healthy and equitable neighborhoods? Are there replicable models of these sorts of collaborations that other municipalities can develop? These are the kinds of questions will fuel the discussion at our Innovations in Planning Symposium. City planners, community officials, nonprofits, researchers, students, advocates, and other professionals whose work relates to health and housing are welcome to register for this symposium.

National Healthy Homes Month Kickoff: U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development

Dr. Ben Carson will speak, as part of the kickoff of National Healthy Homes Month. This month-long campaign in June creates awareness around housing and its impact on health, and provides resources to encourage local activities and empower families to protect themselves from hazards in their home. Outreach activities aim to greatly boost awareness and understanding of what federal and local resources are available to make a difference in the lives of all residents, regardless of where they live.

Keynote Speaker: President of Policy Solutions for Reinvestment Fund

Dr. Ira Goldstein will discuss the role real estate market value analyses can play in community revitalization. Goldstein leads all research on housing, community and economic development issues related to Reinvestment Fund’s organizational goals and mission. Prior to joining Reinvestment Fund, he served as the director of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity for the mid-Atlantic region at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
