Center for Housing and Community Engagement

UNCG Habitat for Humanity Chapter

The UNCG Habitat for Humanity Club is sponsored by the Center for Housing and Community Studies and Dr. Sills serves as the faculty advisor to the group.

The work that Habitat does for these communities helps to create trusting relationships between Greensboro communities and UNCG. The projects are not only beneficial to families, but also to the student volunteers. Members of UNCG Habitat Club are able to improve leadership abilities, attain cultural competence and enhance their capacity for skill building.

As student volunteer Tamara Groce explains, ” I never thought painting would be so fun and eventful. I met a lot of new people that had went to UNCG and goes there now. At first, I thought painting a whole house would be hard and boring. Turns out I actually had a lot of fun painting. Not only because of the people but because I got to see the happy faces of the family when they came by to see the progress of their new home. This event was worth it, I look forward to the next one!”

The club meets every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at 5pm for our general body meeting in MRHA 2711. It is involved in Habitat home building as well as volunteer assistance around housing with refugees through Church World Services.
